Joost лихорадит?
Блог JoostTeam опубликовал пост “What is going on with Joost”. Пост потом был стерт с сайта, но остался в RSS-фидах (например, здесь). .
Очень печально слышать, что команда Joost’а находится в угнетенном состоянии духа. Я хорошо понимаю разработчиков - очень сложно сохранять боевой настрой, когда конкуренты выпускают столь блестящий продукт (речь, конечно, об Apple с их прокатом фильмов и Apple TV) . Однако, у Joost’а есть мощная и технологичная платформа, у него есть свои сильные стороны и достоинства. Как я уже писал ранее - Apple не завоевал рынок цифрового видео, он открыл новую эру. Хочется верить, что Joost найдет свое место.

This is rather sad. Joost started out strong but has quickly slowed down. I really hope that the spirit level is only rumors and that to the contrary every one is happy and working harder than before… but my gut feeling is that things are not all that well.I personally have not been watching much of Joost lately. The content on Joost is really lacking for Canadians compared to what someone in the US can get.A quick talk with my friends that have joined Joost revealed that they have pretty much all stopped using the application a few days after installing it ;-( The reasons given to stop using it:
- Lack of content
- Hard to find good content
- No way of watching on the TV
- Cumbersome
- Hard to use the UI, prefer browser simplicity of youtube
- Don’t want to share bandwidth
- Don’t want to install client
- Can’t run on PPC Mac
What need to happen for Joost to become more successfull is:
- Better worldwide content availability (shows like heroes, jericho, lost, etc)
- Browser based client that run in Flash (drop the platform specific client). Now Linux and PPC Mac users can use the platform.
- Allow Joost content caching to portable platforms like the iPhone/iPod for offline watching.
- New UI that help you find the good content (possibly a way to filter the bad from the good)
- Ability to “subscribe” to series and keep track of what episodes you have watched, what episodes are new, etc (ever seen a good bittorent TV tracker lately ;-))
- Less pre-teen/teen content, more grown-up content
- Make widgets easier to install/find/upgrade
- Appliance solution to watch Joost on the big screen
